Description
This 429th ARS KB-50J from the 4505th Air Refueling Wing was configured as a drogue-only refueling tanker tasked with providing gas to USAF and NATO fighters during the early 1960s. US Air Force Tactical Air Command possessed its own KC-50J tankers for many years before all tankers were consolidated under Strategic Air Command. The 429th flew out of Langley Air Force Base near the Virginia Capes. The KB-50 was one of the first aircraft designed from the drawing board as an airborne tanker.
