497th Tac Ftr Sq Hooters F-4E

This 497th Tactical Fighter Squadron “Hooters” F-4E was flown by retired Colonel James “Spanky” Dennis when he was assigned to the 51st Tactical Fighter Wing at Teague Air Base South Korea. The 497th and 36th Tac Fighter Squadrons were strictly air-to-air only Phantom squadrons defending South Korea from a North Korean invasion. This Phantom is armed for an air superiority mission with AIM-7 Sparrow radar-guided and AIM-9 heat-seeking missiles. An AQL-119 electronic jamming pod is carried in the left forward missile well.
