Captain John Markle McDonnell Douglas F-4D Phantom II

On 10 May 1972 the North Vietnamese Air Force reacted en mass to the opening of Operation Linebacker I, the intense bombing of critical targets in and around the Hanoi and Hai Phong areas. Knowing the North Vietnamese were going to react with fighter interceptors to stop the air strikes with a new type oof precision guided weapon called laser guided bombs, an F-4 Phantom II four ship of the best pilots and WSOs were put together in one flight… OYSTER Flight. OYSTER Flight accounted for five enemy MiG-21s shot down in a big air battle northwest of Hanoi. This F-4D serial number 68-0734 was flown by Captain John Markle and 1Lt Steve Eaves when they shot down a MiG-21 Fished near Kep Airfield.
