The Lockheed P-2V Neptune was the US Navy’s primary shore-based Maritime Patrol and Anti-Submarine Warfare aircraft during the 1960s and 1970s Cold War period. The Neptune was employed extensively during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. The Neptune flew with the US Forest Service after retiring from the Navy performing fire attacks and suppression of forest fires. Several of our US Allies flew the P-2V including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and France, licensed manufactured by Kawasaki in Japan for the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force, Portugal, Royal Australian Navy, British Royal Navy, and The Royal Dutch Navy.
