Major Bernie Fisher Douglas A-1E Skyraider 1st Air Commando Squadron

Douglas A-1E was flown by Major Bernie Fisher on 10 March 1966 when he landed his Skyraider on a Special Operations Group runway under attack from 2000 Viet Cong to pick up his wingman Major Dafford “Jump” Meyers. Major Fisher was able to rescue Major Meyers by throwing him in the cockpit and taking off before the Viet Cong could stop him.
